Dr Shetty qualified from India in 1994. He trained both in India (Mysore and Mumbai) and the UK (Gloucester/Bristol). He was appointed to the Trust as a consultant gastroenterologist and interventional endoscopist in 2009.
During his training he has worked on research projects on “focal active colitis” and interleukins in acute pancreatitis. He was the trust endoscopy lead (2017-2019) and upper GI cancer lead (2014-2019). He is the Trust lead for endoscopic ultrasound services and his main interests are interventional endoscopy (ERCP,EUS and EMR etc.) and pancreatico-biliary diseases. He is an accredited National Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopist. He is active in research projects on portal hypertension, GI cancer (SPIT trial) and pancreas. He has been elected as a national member of pancreas section of BSG (British Society of Gastroenterology) and is the senior medical academy teacher and honorary senior lecturer to University of Birmingham.
Outside of work Dr Shetty enjoys cycling and running (London Marathon 2015).
