Cancer Teams

Acute Oncology Team

The Acute Oncology Team will provide advice regarding the management of patients from an oncology perspective, but the patient will remain under the care of the admitting team. The Acute Oncology Service is for acute inpatient problems. The team holds a weekly MDT meeting to discuss acute oncology inpatients. The MDT is held on a Thursday at 4pm.

Breast

The breast team will provide advice regarding the management from a breast care perspective. They provide information, education, advice, diagnostics, new cancer diagnosis, treatment and after care to inpatients and outpatients. The breast care teams have a well-established nurse led service and are based on ward B5 at Russells Hall Hospital. The breast care MDT is held on a Friday at 12.45pm.

Colorectal

The Colorectal team provides advice regarding the management of bowel cancer. They provide information, education, advice, diagnostics, new cancer diagnosis, treatment and after care to inpatients and outpatients. They support patients with education to patients with a bowel stoma such as a colostomy or ileostomy due to bowel cancer, or a functional bowel disorder. The colorectal nursing team have a well-established stoma support nursing service. The Colorectal MDT is on a Monday at 12.45pm.

Gynaecology

The Gynaecology team specialises in providing care, support, education to patients who have cancer within the womb, ovarian, cervical, vulvar or vaginal. They provide information, education, advice, diagnostics, new cancer diagnosis, treatment and after care to inpatients and outpatients. They have a well-established nurse led service for inpatients and outpatients and are based in the 2nd floor clinical offices at Russells Hall Hospital. The Gynaecology MDT is held on a Tuesday at 12.30pm.

Haematology

The haematology team specialise in all types of blood cancers and disorders such as leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma. They provide information, education, advice, diagnostics, new cancer diagnosis, treatment and after care to inpatients and outpatients. The team are based within the first floor offices. The team sees inpatients on the Georgina (C4).  The haematology MDT is held on a Friday at 2.30pm.

Lung

The lung team provides care and support to lung cancer patients. They have a well-established nurse led service and are based at Esk house, at Russells Hall Hospital. They provide information, education, advice, diagnostics, new cancer diagnosis, treatment and after care to inpatients and outpatients. They provide information, support and education to inpatients and outpatients. The lung MDT is on a Monday at 12.30pm.

Skin

The skin team provides care and support to patients who have skin cancer, malignant melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The skin team has a well-established nurse led service for inpatients and outpatients. They provide information, education, advice, diagnostics, new cancer diagnosis, treatment and after care to inpatients and outpatients. The Skin MDT is held on a Tuesday at 12.30pm.

Urology

The urology team is responsible for looking after patients with a urological cancer. This can be prostate, ureteric, penile, kidney, and bladder. The urology team has a well-established nurse led service for the cancer patients offering advice, information, education around cancer and urology. Urology has a separate hospital to home service for patients who are under the urology team, for patients who require support in the community with stents, nephrostomies and catheters. The Urology MDT is on a Thursday at 1pm.

Upper GI

The upper GI Team care for patients with cancer of the oesophageal, stomach, small bowel, pancreatic, liver and biliary system. They provide information, education, advice, diagnostics, new cancer diagnosis, treatment and after care to inpatients and outpatients. The team is responsible for inpatients and sees patients in outpatient clinics. The Upper GI team MDT is held on a Wednesday at 12.30pm.

Living With and Beyond Cancer Team (LWBC)

The LWBC team is based within the 2nd floor clinical offices at Russells Hall Hospital. The team is responsible for supporting clinical teams with embedding person centred care for all cancer patients who are cared for within the hospital. They provide education, support, information and also have a nurse-led service for providing holistic needs assessment and care planning for cancer patients that are referred to the service.
