Staff from The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust are asking patients to become antibiotic guardians and pledge to protect the future of antibiotics.
Pharmacists are promoting alternatives to antibiotics during World Antibiotic Awareness Week (13th-17th November).
“Antibiotic resistance is a very real problem in modern healthcare due to the ever increasing use of antibiotics,” said Chief Executive Diane Wake.
“For infections that our bodies are good at fighting, such as coughs and colds, we are asking members of the public to treat the symptoms for five days rather than visiting their GP,” she added.
“They can also pledge to take unused antibiotics to their local pharmacist for safe disposal to help prevent antibiotics getting into the environment.”
The Trust that runs Russells Hall Hospital, and Corbett and Guest outpatient centres, is urging as many people as possible to sign up to become antibiotic guardians and pledge to protect the future of antibiotics.

Pharmacists from The Dudley Group will be available for advice and information in main reception at Russells Hall Hospital on Tuesday 14th November 2017 from 9am to 1pm.
They are also available on wards and in the pharmacy department.
