Here at The Dudley Group, we see patients as people, and one in three people go by a different preferred name.
That’s why, from the 1st May 2023, we will be launching the #CallMe initiative. Originally set up by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, #CallMe is a simple initiative where patients are given the opportunity to be called by their preferred name. The patient’s preferred name and/or title can then be added as an additional section to their hospital identification wristband.
#CallMe aims to:
- Show our patients that they are respected as individuals at a time when they are feeling particularly vulnerable.
- Provide comfort and reassurance to our patients.
- Ensure that we are providing person-centred patient care.
- Help us to develop a strong relationship with our patients.
Oxford University Hospitals has also adopted this initiative, and has produced a short video demonstrating the importance of addressing people by their preferred name. Click here to view the video.
