Ambition To be the best physician possible
When I first heard I would be stationed in Dudley for clinical rotations I wondered what things would be like, especially since I had never even heard of the place! Approximately nine months into my rotations here; however, I feel glad and privileged to be at Russells Hall Hospital.
For starters, the staff at the hospital has been welcoming, friendly and helpful. I also get a sense of community and neighbourliness in the general population that I truly appreciate. In addition, I don’t feel swallowed up in a big institution but rather that I have been positioned in a small enough environment where I can be both nurtured and exposed to many facets of medicine and patient care.
Moreover, there is a program administration that is willing to assist students, value student input and ideas, and are keen on student growth and development. There are consultants among the faculty who have shown themselves to be interested in helping students mature as doctors and there is an educational program structure here that involves time on the wards, time being taught in a formal classroom setting and bedside teaching. There are even research opportunities that students can get involved with.
I truly see this place as presenting great potential to learn the practice of medicine and to subsequently grow as a doctor of medicine. I deem it a hospitable and nurturing learning environment and recommend Russells Hall hospital for a clinical learning experience.
