Maria Athanasiadou is a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Russells Hall Hospital.
She obtained her primary medical degree in Greece, and following 2 years of core surgical training moved to the UK in 2007. Her plastic surgery training at the University Hospitals Birmingham included a fellowship in microsurgery at Ghent University Hospital, Belgium with the internationally renowned team lead by Professor Philippe Blondeel. Maria developed her sub-specialty interest by completing a skin oncology fellowship at the University Hospital Birmingham.
She holds specialist qualifications from Greece, the European board of plastic surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons. Her main area of specialist activity is in excision of skin cancers including their reconstruction, lymph node clearances and sentinel lymph node biopsy for melanoma. She also performs elective general plastic surgery.
She is a member of the recently founded Mohs department at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton.
